GOVERNOR Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday, announced plans by his administration to create special food marts across the state where food items would be sold to residents at controlled prices.
Adeleke, who stated this at the May Day rally in Osogbo, also rated his administration high in the area of workers’ and retirees’ welfare.
The Governor said since coming on board, both active and retired workers had got a new lease of life through the regular payment of salary and pension, adding that he also paid salary arrears owed workers by the previous administrations.
He said his administration was aware of the economic hardship in the country, hence, its decision to roll out palliative measures.
Adeleke said: “Dear comrades, our government takes judicious note of current national economic challenges. We acknowledge the pain and suffering of our people. Let me assure you that local and national efforts are ongoing to bring succor to our people.
“On the current fuel scarcity, I am happy to inform us all that the state task force on petroleum products has deployed monitoring teams to ensure that fuel hoarding is stopped as supply increases.
“Our government is working to create special food marts across the state. Such centres will sell food items at controlled prices to address the current high level of food inflation.”
Assuring workers of continuous harmonious relationship, Adeleke said the Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina, had been directed to distribute new vehicles bought for Permanent Secretaries in the state to them, to further enhance their productivity.
He also revealed a plan to release another round of bonds to retirees who left service on the Contributory Pension Scheme to cushion the biting effect of the present economy on them.
“We are in the process of engaging new teachers at both primary and secondary levels. The process, which is being coordinated by the HoS and the agencies under the education sector, is ongoing,” the governor said.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Osun State, Christopher Arapasopo, commended Adeleke for his landmark achievements and support for workers.
