Disturbed by the spate of recurring onslaughts on media practitioners, the Secretary to the Osun state government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti has called journalists in the country to mandate all media owners to put in place insurance scheme to safeguard the welfare and lives of the practitioners.
He said this has become necessary in view of the numerous hazard faced daily in the process of getting the members of the public informed.
Adeoti made this call at a public lecture lined up as part of the event for the Osun state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists press week.
In allusion to how the late veteran Journalist, Dele Giwa was slain and how journalists of this dispensation have had their fair share of the gory tales to tell over the inhuman treatment by private individual and government, the SSG noted that the time to come together to fight and demand for an insurance policy that will benefit all is now.
Communication, and Strategy, Dr. Tunde Hamzat maintained that most of the unemployed youths are products of systematic failure in the education sector which came to be as a result of deliberate state sponsored policies, describing it as an extension of elite conspiracy hypothesis which has programmed them to be either unemployed or underemployed.
He added that the major casualty of unemployment is security, which he said, has given reign to terror, and other forms of criminal acts in the country.
Olatoye however called for the need to subject our education policy to a painstaking interrogation in order to comprehend the avoidable malady.
He urged the youths to stop agonising, rather should organise themselves to enthrone a paradigm shift in the politics of the country.
Also speaking at th gathering, the Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oba Oyeyode Oyeyosin called on media practitioners to raise against the immunity being enjoyed by the executive arm of government, stressing that it is the bedrock of corruption as President and governors are shielded from trials for their corrupt acts.
He said as long as the immunity clause is retained in the constitution, corruption would not seize in the society, saying there is need to curb the menace from the highest level of government.
