For the forthcoming congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party has recommended to its state chapters to adopt consensus options for the election of party officials at all levels.
The party’s Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) advised in Abuja on Wednesday.
In a statement signed by Sen. John Akpanudoedehe, the Secretary of the CECPC, the party said the consensus option will save cost and reduce acrimony in the party.
“For us, we have to take into consideration the need to accommodate everyone because APC is a party for all Nigerians.
“We are encouraging states to adopt the consensus arrangement because it saves costs and reduces acrimony.
“That is why when you look at Article 20 of our Constitution which talks about elections, the first thing there is for members to try reaching consensus,” he said.
He added that only when the consensus option failed, should party members resort to balloting.
The congresses/conventions are expected to commence on July 31 with ward congresses.
