Fresh students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) have bemoaned the failure of the management of the institution to provide valid identity cards for them.
Our correspondent gathered that the fresh students after gaining admission since several months ago are yet to be given any means of identification.
The failure of the management has become the tradition of the school for not providing ID cards for fresh students of the university. It has become the culture of the university to not give the fresh students ID cards until they get to 200 level.
This casts show of inefficiency by the management, has not only made the fresh students victims of harassment, but many of them are denied access to places and vital opportunities within and outside the campus.
According to the students, there is limit to what the fresh students can do in terms of registration for external programmes like scholarship, conference and others since they have no means of valid identification.
While external restrictions are understandable, they are also some times denied access by agents of the school that has failed to give them identity cards in good time.
One of the fresh students who simply identified himself as Joshua, said his parents at home did not know the colour of the university ID card because he was never given one.
When our correspondent called the University spokesmen, Olarewaju Abiodun for comments on this, he didn’t pick his call as at the time of filling this report.
