Aina Narrowly Beats Awoniyi, Lokosa To February Complete Sports Player Of The Month Award

Super Eagles and Hull City defender Ola Aina has narrowly beaten Mouscron striker Taiwo Awoniyi and Kano Pillars rising star Junior Lokosa to the Complete Sports Player of the Month award for February.

Aina, who is on loan from Chelsea to a championship side, polled 35 per cent of the votes from Completesportsnigeria.com users, while Awoniyi got 33 per cent and Nigeria Professional Football League top scorer Lokosa received 32 per cent in the closest contest ever in Complete Sports Player of the Month history.

Since his loan move from Chelsea to Hull City, he has been one of the Championship club’s most important players and he was nominated for Hull’s January Player of the Month Award.

The 21-year-old, who is in the Nigeria squad for the March friendlies against Poland and Serbia, has gone on to feature in almost all of Hull’s Championship games this season.

In a league away game against Preston North End on February 3, Hull lost 2-1 with Aina in action for 90 minutes.

Hull went away again on February 10, to face Nottingham Forest for a league game which they won 2-0. Aina saw 90 minutes of action.

On February 20, Middlesbrough defeated Hull 3-1 in yet another league tie with Aina playing the full game.

And in another league game against Sheffield Wednesday on February 23, Aina, on for 90 minutes, helped his side win 1-0. The Nigeria defender underscored his importance to Hull City by playing the full 90 minutes in each of their four matches in February.
