Plateau United goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye has not given up on his team and believes they can still make it to the group stage of the CAF Champions League despite going down to a 4-2 defeat against Etoile du Sahel in their first round, first leg clash at the Stade Olympique in Sousse on Tuesday.
The Nigerian champions started on a very terrible note in the first half of the encounter but found their feet after the break with two goals coming from Rapheal Ayagwa and Tosin Omoyele to make the scoreline more respectable.
Kennedy Boboye’s men will need two goals more without conceding any to continue in the lucrative group stage of the competition in the second leg billed for the New Jos Stadium in a fortnight.
Ajiboye who came in for the injured Okiemute Odah in the 13th minute of the game believes it is a task that is achievable.
“It’s disappointing that we didn’t start the game well but we showed good character by scoring two goals in the second half,” the former junior international told CSN.
“The two goals is a big lifeline for us and we now have a good chance of making it to the group stage.
“I’m sure they will make things difficult for us in Jos but they are not invincible as we all saw in the second half when we put our acts together.
“It is going to be another tough game but I believe we will make it at the end of the day.”
