Akwa Ibom Commissioners Deny Resignation After Eno Joined APC
Two Akwa Ibom State commissioners, Prof. Eno Ibanga (Works and Fire Service) and Emem Bob (Finance), have denied reports that they resigned following Governor Umo Eno’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor, along with most of his cabinet members, lawmakers, and local government chairmen, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday for the APC.
Dismissing the rumours, Ibanga described reports of his resignation as false and mischievous.
“It is a figment of the imagination of its orchestrators, who are clearly unsettled by the Commissioner’s unwavering performance and loyalty,” said a statement by his information officer, Evelyn Ibanga.
He affirmed that his loyalty to Governor Eno remains “sacrosanct, resolute, and unquestionable.”
Governor Eno’s defection has been hailed by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, who said the move would bolster the APC’s strength in the South-South.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Okpebholo praised Eno’s “bold and courageous decision” to align with the APC’s progressive ideals and national vision.
He added, “The decision by Governor Umo Eno to join the APC shows his foresight and dedication to the welfare of his people. It signifies a strategic alignment that will undoubtedly unlock greater opportunities, foster stronger collaborations and accelerate the delivery of democratic dividends to the good people of Akwa Ibom State.”
Eno is the second PDP governor to switch to the APC in the last three months, following Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s defection in April.
