A group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State of Osun named De’Trumpet has advised the leadership of the party to reason with the dynamics and desire of the majority of the people of the state and listen to them if the party seriously consider winning the gubernatorial election scheduled for September 22 as important.
The group in a statement by its spokesperson Alhaji Moruf Olaiya said politics has gone past the level of grandstanding we are witnessing today especially in Osun state where the feelings of the people at the grassroots decides the outcome of political contests.
Making reference to the Osun West Senatorial by-election decided last year, the group said the APC would have been saved from the embarrassment of the calamitous result it got in the election if the spirit of give and take had been allowed to prevail.
To ensure victory for the party, the group advised that the party should not in any way disregard the agitation that the candidate that will fly its banner in the Governorship election is selected from Osun West Senatorial District.
Speaking further, Alh Olaiya on behalf of De’Trumpet said people should realize that the thinking of money being the decider of electoral contest plays little or no role in Osun electoral process as sheer determination, individual character quality and the ability of the people to identify with the flag bearer of the party as one of them are the real issues that will determine the next occupier of the Bola Ige House.
Using Ogun state as an example, Alh Olaiya said it is not a mistake that all the major political parties in that state decided that they will pick their flag bearer in the February 2019 Governorship contest from Ogun West Senatorial District a decision it said will greatly reduce the burden of having to contend with hordes of aspirants which may invariably lead to fragmentation and tear the party apart.
The group commended the stance of the Elders Forum led by Chief Sola Akinwumi, the Forum of APC Local Government Party Chairmen, the Forum of APC Ward Chairmen, groups like Osun West Youth Solidarity Forum for their resilience on the demand for the leadership of the party to allow the delegates to choose from the hordes of qualified aspirants from Osun West Senatorial District, warning that doing otherwise might spell doom for the party again in the coming election.
