THE Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed ‘Operation Amotekun’ in Ondo State has arrested a 35-year-old man Osun indigene, Wasiu Olamide, in connection with alleged theft of over 100 motorcycles in Osun, Oyo, Ogun and Ondo states.
Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, the State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, said Olamide was arrested after series of complaints by victims who he had allegedly robbed in Akure, Ondo State capital.
Olamide was arrested with seven other suspects who were held for various crimes.
Adeleye said Wasiu, who is said to be the ringleader of the syndicate operating within the South-West region, usually robbed his victims at gunpoint and sold their motorcycles.
He said: “We have a syndicate that operates within Ondo, Osun, Oyo and Ogun in stealing motorcycles, but we have been able to apprehend the ringleader (Wasiu) who confessed to having stolen over 100 motorcycles in the past three months.
“The suspect usually operates within the South-West region where he snatches motorbikes from their owners at gunpoint and takes them to a hideout where the bikes would be dismantled before selling them and there’s a buyer that comes midway and harvest all the motorcycles and cart them away.
