AnambraDecides2025: Peter Obi Decries Rampant Vote Buying
Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed concern over the widespread vote buying observed during the state’s governorship election.
Obi, who cast his vote at Polling Unit 019, Agulu II, in Anaocha Local Government Area, described the act as unfortunate and detrimental to good governance.
“Unfortunately, those who are the victims of bad governance seem to be fuelling it,” Obi told journalists after voting. “What you see is vote buying to the tune of ₦20,000, ₦30,000, and ₦50,000.”
The election features 16 governorship candidates across various political parties, including incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), whose four-year term ends in March 2026.
Other key contenders include Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP), Chuma Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Geoffrey Onyejegbu of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
