Angry Workers Block Nassarawa Deputy Governor Convoy

Last Friday was not palatable for the Nassarawa State deputy Governor as aggrieved workers blocked his convoy.

The angry workers who in their hundreds stormed Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State protested over their unpaid two months and the alleged missing of N20million deducted from their previous salaries by the Federal Mortgage Housing Scheme.

The angry workers chanted different anti government songs and blocked the convoy of the Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe for hours.

News has it that the deputy Governor, Mr Akabe and the embattled Council Chairman, Mr. Rabo Sani, had earlier met and pleaded with the workers promising quick solution.

Mr Akabe told the protesting workers that the State Government is doing everything possible to address their demands, but the protesting workers refused to yield as they continued with the protest shutting down the deputy’s Governor.

Mr Rabo Sani, while addressing the workers placed all the blames of their inability of the council to pay salaries on his predecessors, he also alleged him of illegal employment of civil servants that worsened the whole situation.

Rabo said, “I did not employ a single civil servant, but my predecessors made a mistake by employing over 500 local government workers”

“The rationale behind the protest was due to the shortage of funds to pay workers salaries.”

Sani also debunked the allegation of the missing Federal Mortgage Housing Scheme. He said it was a mere rumour. He told the workers that nothing is missing, rather the Local Government borrowed the money to pay workers salaries in the interest of the State.

Sani publicly declared to the protesting workers, that a sum of 2.1billion will be needed to settle the two months unpaid salaries of the 13 Local Government Councils of the State
