A former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Zainab Galadima, has criticised the ruling party, describing it as a “big time failure” that no longer reflects the values it claims to uphold.

Speaking during an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on Mic-On, Galadima said she was among the founding members of the APC, having joined from the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) based on the belief that the party would deliver meaningful change to Nigerians.

According to her, that expectation was not met under the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari, and she believes the situation has worsened under the current government of Bola Tinubu.

“I was one of the founding members of APC. From CPC we joined because we believed late President Buhari was going to bring that change, that ease for the common man. But Buhari failed and Tinubu is also failing woefully. APC is a big time failure and I’m ashamed to associate with the party,” she said.

Galadima added that her disappointment in the party had made it difficult for her to publicly identify with it.

Explaining her decision to resign from the party, she likened her experience in the APC to being in a “toxic marriage,” saying she endured the situation for a long time before deciding to leave.

“When you’re in a toxic marriage, you’ll be patient for a very long time and take all sorts of rubbish. But the day you decide it’s over, you won’t miss it. I don’t miss APC one bit,” she stated.

While noting that she still maintains personal relationships people within the party, Galadima insisted that the APC no longer operates in line with its progressive ideals.

“You cannot have a platform and be doing otherwise and keep saying you’re progressives. I don’t regret it, I don’t miss it and I’m unapologetic about it. There’s nothing they can do to bring me back,” she added.

She further revealed that since her exit, several party members across different levels have reached out to her, urging her to reconsider her decision.

“People are calling me to come back… from my ward, the local government, the state and even the federal level. I thought I didn’t matter, but now they are calling,” she said.

Galadima also disclosed that during a recent visit to the residence of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, she interacted with some serving APC senators who admitted that many party members are dissatisfied.

“I asked them how APC is doing and their response was that they are tired. I can guarantee you that most people in APC are not happy; they are just there because of one convenience or the other,” she said.
