The Chairman, Elders Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Engr. Sola Akinwumi, has pleaded with local government workers in the state to return to work.

Akinwumi, in a statement on Tuesday, appealed to the civil servants to work with Local Government Chairmen of the party reportedly reinstated by the Court of Appeal.

He also urged them not to become tools in the hands of politicians, stressing the need to uphold democratic tenets.

OSUN DEFENDER recalls that workers in the state’s council areas under the umbrella of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) had suspended their services due to the ongoing crisis at the third-tier of government.

While members of the APC insist that the appellate court had returned its Chairmen sacked by the Court in 2022, PDP members insist that the court did not approve such. Members of the PDP, thereafter, won the just concluded February 22, 2025 local government election.

In a statement made available to journalists on Monday, Osun NLC Chairperson, Christopher Arapasopo reiterated that workers will not succumb to pressure from political actors and that they will remain at home till the situation is resolved.

Akinwumi said, “I have watched with increasing distress and agony the increasing involvement of Local Government Workers in the political struggle in the local governments between the political parties.

“I know that the Local Government Workers are committed citizens of Osun State who ought to be committed to the peace, stability, growth and development of our dear Osun State. I know as human beings you are entitled to your individual political views and preferences.

“I am also aware that dedicated public servants you ought not to wear partisan political garbs. As public servants, your commitment is to provide the best service to your local governments.

“You are expected to provide diligent professional service to your local government irrespective of the coloration of the political leadership.

“There will always be changes in the colors of political leadership and it is your duty to continue serving the leadership, no matter the political coloration.

“I want to say, it will always be the duty of Political Parties to contest for political leadership at all levels. For democracy to grow and become eternalized and internalized in Nigeria, there will always be political contests among political parties. It is, however in the continuing interest of our country that public servants refrain from descending into the political arena and become partisan political participants..

“As an elder and senior citizen of Osun State, I want to advise the workers in our various Local Government Areas to resist the lure to become political participants. I therefore advise them to go back to perform their loyal service.

“They should allow the politicians do what they are expected to do especially when such actions are in the interest of their various local governments and Osun State which calls for these public servants go back to render their professional duties and not become tools in the hands of any politician or political grouping,” the Chairman, Igbimo Agba APC stated further.
