APC Congress: Caretaker Committee Members Meet On Wednesday

The Caretaker Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will on Wednesday meet to consider the schedule of activities for the party’s forthcoming National Convention.

It was learnt that the meeting was slated for Tuesday but shifted on Monday afternoon on the orders of the Chairman of the CECPC, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.

Sources in the party however revealed that the shift of meeting was not unconnected with the ongoing compilation of petitions and reports of the ward and local government congresses appeal committees.

It was gathered that the appeal committee report is one of the major issues slated for deliberation at the routine meeting of the CECPC.

The Caretaker Committee will take reports on the level of preparedness by the Directorate of Organizations on the rescheduled party-state congresses and approve the schedule of activities for the state congress.

The meeting will also approve the membership of the organising committee for the 16th October 2021 State Congresses of the party.

It was also learnt that the meeting will be preparing a position on the controversial zoning arrangement ahead of the party’s National Convention to be presented at the forthcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting after the State Congresses.

It will be recalled that CECPC in a statement last Wednesday by the Secretary of the Caretaker Committee, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe announced two- week shift of the State Congresses from the 2nd of October to Saturday 16th October.

Akpanudoedehe said the shift was in honor of the nation’s 61st independence celebration and to enable Governors, lawmakers and party members to celebrate the anniversary in their various States.

According to Akpanudoedehe, “They need to honor the country’s 61st Independence anniversary, which holds a day before the initial date fixed for the state congresses, informed the new date.

“Governors, Ministers, and party members will be involved in the Independence celebrations in their various states. The party decided to reschedule the state congresses to allow all our members to participate in the Independence celebration,” Akpanudoedehe said.

The party had initially fixed the state congresses for October 2, 2021.
