Dr Abayomi called for Kekemeke’s resignation on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, citing anti-party activities as one of his reasons.
Buttressing his point, Abayomi reportedly said the resignation of Kekemeke was the only solution to the crisis rocking the state.
Abayomi reportedly said it would be honourable for the embattled chairman to leave the position in order for peace to reign in the ruling party.
“The APC is committed to moving the state forward and our party should not be facing any internal crisis,” Abayomi reportedly said.
Kekemeke and top members of the State Executive Committee of the party have been engaging in internal battles after the chairman was suspended for allegedly not performing his role actively in the party.
To this end, the executive committee, which set up a three-man fact-finding disciplinary committee to probe the chairman, appointed the state’s deputy chairman, Ade Adetimehin, to lead the party in an acting capacity.
But Kekemeke, who allegedly shunned the invitation of the disciplinary committee, faulted the action of the executive committee and insisted that he was still the chairman of the party.
