– Begin Moves To Handover Party To Wike
In what appears to be a move to handover the structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party on Wednesday dissolved the State Executives of the Party at all levels.
Osun Defender learnt that the dissolved executives were loyal to the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
Amaechi has been silent politically in the state since his loss at the Presidential Primaries of the APC that produced President Bola Tinubu in 2022.
Both the former Minister and the incumbent Minister are sworn political rivals. Wike is still a card carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but worked assiduously to actualise the emergence of the President.
The immediate-past Governor of Rivers State had also stated on several occasions that although he is not a member of the APC, he will continue to support everything that President Tinubu stands for.
Briefing journalists after the meeting of the NWC at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, Esq., said the party’s NWC has appointed a seven-member caretaker committee to steer the party’s affairs in the state for the next six months.
Members of the caretaker committee are:
1. Chief Tony C. Okocha – Chairman
2. Chief Eric Nwibani – Secretary
3. Hon. Chibuike Ikenga
4. Prince Stephen Abolo
5. Hon. Silvester Vidin
6. Senibo Karibi Dan-Jumbo
7. Miss Darling Amadi
Morka added that the committee is also expected to conduct a comprehensive and fresh electronic party registration of all members in the State.
The statement reads in part: “The Caretaker Committee subject to the directives of the NWC was entrusted with preparing for the conduct of congresses to facilitate the emergence of new Executive Committees for the Party at various levels, extending from the ward to the State.
“The Caretaker Committee will be inaugurated on Friday, 24th November 2023 at the Party’s National Secretariat, Abuja.”
