APC Gave Me Two Terms, I’ll Never Betray Them — Buhari
Former President Muhammadu Buhari has declared his unwavering loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing rumours of a rift between him and President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking through his former spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu, on Trust TV’s 30 Minutes programme on Monday, Buhari insisted he remains grateful to the APC for making his presidency possible after three failed attempts.
“I will never be ungrateful. I will never betray the party that gave me two terms in office,” Buhari was quoted as saying.
Shehu noted that Buhari holds no grudges and that there is no official disagreement between the former president and Tinubu or between their administrations.
“APC came together and gave him two terms, for which he has remained grateful,” Shehu added.
Addressing reports of internal crisis within the ruling party, Shehu said such speculation does not reflect Buhari’s position.
“When people are entitled to hold their opinion, and your interpretation of it is purely your entitlement, I don’t think in a formal and official sense anybody would talk about distrust or mistrust or a façade between the Buhari administration and the Tinubu administration,” he said.
He also dismissed suggestions that Buhari’s camp is troubled by public conversations about possible divisions in the APC.
“We see statements; we read them when people say these things. Do we get disturbed? I don’t think that is the word,” Shehu stated.
Recalling the formation of the APC in 2014, Shehu said it was a difficult process involving immense sacrifice, and those who were part of it would not work against the party.
“It took a lot of doing, energy, and sacrifice for the APC to have been put in place, for the desperate opposition elements to come together,” he said. “They tried one, two, three times, and they failed. But by this time, they came together in 2014, formed a party, and ran. They won.”
Shehu affirmed that Buhari remains fully committed to the party’s unity and success.
