APC Group Urges Tinubu to Reshuffle Cabinet, Remove Finance Ministers

A prominent support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to remove the ministers in charge of the nation’s finances, warning that alleged sabotage by some cabinet members could weaken the administration and damage the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections.

The APC League of Democrats made the call in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

Its National Coordinator, Hon. Babajide Oyewole, stressed that the long-anticipated cabinet reshuffle must go beyond redeployment and include the outright removal of certain ministers, particularly those handling the nation’s finances.

“Further delay in reshuffling the cabinet will inflict more damage on the government and weaken public confidence in the APC,” Oyewole said.

“We are seasoned politicians and can read between the lines when appointees are working anticlockwise to sabotage the good intentions and programmes of the government they claim to serve.”

Drawing lessons from past administrations, the group cautioned President Tinubu against repeating what it described as the mistakes of former President Goodluck Jonathan, whose government, it said, was weakened by internal sabotage.

The APC group also raised concern over the continued non-payment of over ₦4 trillion owed to indigenous contractors, despite presidential directives.

The group said many firms are now on the brink of collapse.

“This avoidable crisis has embarrassed the government and damaged Nigeria’s image internationally,” the statement read.

“Protests against government institutions demarket the country to potential investors. No serious investor wants to engage an economy where there is no circulation of funds.”

The group further called for a thorough investigation into allegations of preferential payments by the Minister of State for Finance to cronies and associates, insisting that decisive action was required to restore confidence.

In contrast, the APC League of Democrats commended ministers it described as “performing and proactive,” including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; and the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.

It urged the President to retain or strategically redeploy such officials to strengthen service delivery.

“While most ministers should be reshuffled for efficiency, the two ministers controlling the nation’s finances must be relieved as a matter of urgency, in the interest of national stability and the future of our great party,” the group stated.

The statement warned that unresolved grievances and sustained protests could severely affect the APC’s electoral prospects in 2027.

“We will not allow sabotage to rewrite the history of 2015 in the coming elections. The President must heed these patriotic calls before it is too late,” Oyewole added.

The statement comes as the Association of Indigenous Contractors of Nigeria continues its protest at the Federal Ministry of Finance, blocking access to the complex and preventing the Minister of State for Finance from entering her office.

Despite reported interventions by the National Assembly and President Tinubu, contractors insist that payments remain outstanding and accuse the finance ministry of deliberately disobeying presidential directives.
