Following the news surrounding the adoption of a consensus candidate for the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Muhammadu Buhari has said there will be no imposition of presidential candidate on the party.
In a statement issued by Garba Shehu, the presidential spokesman said Buhari maintained the position on Monday at a meeting with APC governors from the northern region.
The president’s statement comes amid reports that Abdullahi Adamu, APC national chairman, has endorsed Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the party’s consensus candidate.
“You were elected as I was. Have a clear mind as I have. God gave us the chance; we have no reason to complain. We must be ready to take pain as we take the joy. Allow the delegates to decide. The Party must participate, nobody will appoint anybody,” Buhari was quoted as saying.
