THE Coalition of Indigenes of Osun Law Students at the Nigerian Law School has appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke to approve the disbursement of their bursary.
The students noted that the bursary has sailed through all process and has also gained the approval of the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dipo Eluwole and the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye, but still awaiting the Governor’s approval for disbursement after several months.
Speaking with OSUN DEFENDER, the President of the Law Students in the state, Toyeeb Abodunde, stated that they commenced the bursary process for their members in the year 2023 in view of the economic challenges in the country.
He said: “We commenced a bursary process for the members of our association earlier last year. This was premised on the high cost of expenses attached to law school, ranging from the school fees, feeding (because cooking is not allowed), purchase of textbooks, wig and gown, call to bar expenses, etc.
“Also, our colleagues from other states have been benefiting same from their respective states’ government. For instance, Oyo state disbursed N500,000 to each of her law school students.
“We first met with the Secretary to the State Government. The office of the Chief of Staff has also been helpful in the course and through his office, a memo was eventually prepared on our behalf by the Ministry of Education.
“The memo gained the approval of the Commissioner for Education and the Chief of Staff and has been awaiting the governor’s approval for disbursement for several months.
“We therefore, wish to call the attention of His Excellency to the existence of the said file and plead his good office to approve the said bursary.
“We believe that our dear Governor has a commendable interest in education and we look forward to enjoying from the benefits of his good governance and the new dawn that is shining on the people of Osun state.”
