Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun has appealed to Nigeria Medical Association, state of Osun chapter to see the needs to put the interest of the people above their demands.
Aregbesola made the appeal at the flag off of ‘Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets Replacement Campaign’ in Osogbo.
Recall that the doctors in the state declared indefinite strike action week before the national secretariat of the union began nationwide strike.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mrs. Titi Laoye-Tomori, while appealing to doctors and healthcare givers in the state, said, “Every profession is a social calling to serve the people with honour, dignity and integrity, and sometimes it will require sacrifice and not an opportunity for political posturing.
He said modulated salary structure in the state was arrived at after careful deliberation and concurrence of all the unions, including representatives of the government, workers, retirees and doctors.
“It would therefore amount to an invitation to chaos to single out the doctors for special treatment. We regard all the workers as important and will not look down on some while caressing others and showering them with special treatment”, he noted.
The Governor therefore appreciated the efforts of the State Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Society for Family Health in organising the event.
She also commended National Elimination of Malaria Programs in the Federal Ministry of Health, Global Trust Fund and Catholic Relief Services.
