Former Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has commiserated with the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, over the death of his mother, Alhaja Sidikatu Abake Basiru.

Aregbesola, in a condolence message he personally signed on Tuesday, described the late matriarch as a devoted Muslim and loving mother, praying that Allah grants her Al-Jannah Firdaus.

The former Minister of Interior recalled the painful experience of losing his own mother, saying he understood the depth of Basiru’s grief because the APC scribe was the one who informed him of his mother’s passing nine years ago.

According to Aregbesola, they were in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, on an assignment of the Progressive Governors when Basiru walked into his room early in the morning to deliver the sad news of his mother’s death.

He said, “Death is an inevitable end for every mortal. Just as it came for the mother of Suraju Ajibola Basiru yesterday, so it did for mine exactly nine years save 34 days ago.

“We were in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, on a Progressive Governors’ assignment when Suraju walked into my room early that morning to break the news of my mother’s passing. I therefore have first-hand experience of the pain of losing a mother unexpectedly.”

“I commiserate with my brother, Suraju Ajibola Basiru, on the transition of his dear mother to eternity. May Allah SWT accept her as a devout Muslim and loving mother, and grant her Al-Jannah Firdaus. Aamin.

“I share in the grief of the family for the loss of this great woman — a true matriarch. May you all be roundly comforted and granted the fortitude to bear this huge and irreparable loss. Aamin.

“I pray for Mama’s awakening to joyful activities on the other side. Aamin. Please accept my deepest condolences,” Aregbesola added.
