Immediate past Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has expressed sadness over the death of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja.
This was as he expressed his condolences to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian armed forces.
Aregbesola, in a condolence message titled, ‘Farewell To The Gallant Soldier’, said the late Ilobu born Lagbaja distinguished himself with distinction and valour in all the commands he headed.

added that Lagbaja was a terror to the nation’s enemies in all the combats he led and contributed significantly to national peace and security.
Aregbesola said, “I received with shock and much sadness the announcement of the transition of the Nigerian Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, in Lagos on November 6, 2024. This is a shocking exit of a gallant officer from the stage when he is needed most.

“General Lagbaja was a soldier’s soldier with an illustrious career spanning more than three decades. He distinguished himself with distinction and valour in all the commands he headed. He was a terror to the nation’s enemies in all the combats he led and contributed significantly to national peace and security.
“It is most unfortunate that he left his mission not fully accomplished before he bowed out. His death is the end of an era.
“My deepest condolences to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian armed forces, his immediate family and the good people of Ilobu and Osun for the sad exit of this illustrious officer.
“I pray especially that God will comfort his family, give them his peace and the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May Allah grant him Aljanah Firdous and unending comfort in his next estate. Aamin.”
