The Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in the state of Osun, Mr Emmanuel Attah has said that the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has taken Osun out of the doldrums of under development and stagnation which the state had found itself over the years.
According to Attah, Osun has witnessed unprecedented development in the area of infrastructure and education under the Aregbesola’s administration, saying the state now boasts of roads which many states of the federation don’t have.
Attah made the remark on Thursday while delivering an address at the opening and swearing-In-ceremony of 2,292 2018 Batch ‘B’ Corp members posted to Osun held at the NYSC orientation camp, Ede.
He noted that the Aregbesola’s administration has revamped the education sector and made public education functional and attractive to the people.
Commending the efforts of the NYSC at keeping the nation one, Attah commended the youth service scheme for being at the forefront of youth engagement in the country, as well as fostering unity among Nigerians.
He pointed out that the NYSC in Osun has also keyed into the development agenda of the Osun governor as it has been carrying out series of developmental projects within the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Ede.
According to Attah, “When I first came into Osun and especially Osogbo, I thought I was in one of the big European cities and this is because Aregbesola has brought so much development to this state.
“Without mincing words, one can conveniently say that Osun is now ranked among states in the country with the best roads, Osun has the kind of roads which many states in the country cannot boast of.
“The governor has not only intervened in the area of road infrastructures, we know that there are many world class schools scattered across the state, the school feeding programme in the state is also the best in the country.
In his speech titled “The Great Service Begins”, Aregbesola charged the corp members to see the orientation as an opportunity to have a new sense of responsibility, designed to instill discipline in them and other virtues that will make them successful in life.
Aregbesola charged them to shun every partisan move that may undermine the role of the NYSC during elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He said: “I know this orientation programme has been designed to instill in you the tenacity, discipline and other virtues that you need as individuals to succeed in life, so you must see it as a new form of responsibility which you must embrace.
“There is also something very sensitive which you must bear in mind all through your service year. You must ensure that you don’t have any political affiliation as this may taint the image of the NYSC during the conduct of elections organized by INEC in the country.
“You must maintain the integrity which have been set by your predecessors during election duty in country.”
