A former Commissioner for Social Protection, Sports and Special Needs in Osun State, Comrade Biyi Odunlade has described Aregbesola’s appointment as the Minister for Interior as a perfect match for the former Governor of Osun state.
Odunlade said this in a press release issued by his media aide, Matthew Afolabi on Thursday saying that only experienced and detribalised Nigerian can handle such sensitive ministry.
“Aregbesola has proven to be a detribalized Nigeria. We saw his acceptability during the ministerial screening in the Senate and the laudable remarks made by distinguished Senators from the North, East, South, and West of this country. This perhaps is one of the reasons he has been given such a huge ministry” He said.
He stated that people do not often look at the sensitivity of that ministry and its attendant impact on the management of the internal affairs of the country.
“Interior ministry is a very sensitive one. Dealing with the internal affairs of a complex nation like ours is a herculean task. This is the reality of that ministry that people do not usually look at.” He said.
The former Commissioner to Aregbesola when he was the governor of Osun state emphasised that Aregbesola has proved his mettle by stabilising Osun state and bringing crime rate in the state to the lowest ebb saying that such capacity earned him the ministry.
“You will recall that Aregbesola ensured that there was maximum security in Osun state which translated to the very low crime rate in the state making Osun among the top three low crime states.
“Nigeria is currently facing internal security challenges ranging from kidnapping to banditry, robbery, herdsmen-farmers clash and terrorism among others. This is the task before the Minister and his experience in Osun would no doubt be useful in frontally confronting these challenges.”
Odunlade wished Aregbesola well in his new assignment, noting that he was confident that he would perform beyond expectations given his unarguable capacities.
