As the preparation for the governorship election in the State of Osun is in top gear, Governor Rauf Aregbesola has charged the 2018 Batch ‘B’corps members posted to the state to play positive roles during the election by ensuring that votes of every citizen count.
Aregbesola gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the orientation programme for the Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Ede on Monday.
The Governor in his address urged the corps members to rid themselves of ethnic prejudice, religious intolerance among others.
“Respect the culture and traditions of your host communities. Always strive to live peaceably with those communities so that the aim of the scheme can be actualized.”
He noted that, “You have been rightly informed during the swearing in ceremony of your role in the forthcoming election in the State, you all will play one role or the other during the election I urge you to let your role be positive. Ensure that all votes are well counted at the polling unit and don’t let any political parties perpetuate rigging during election process. Let not the trust reposed in you by your family, the  scheme and the nation at large be at naught.
“Do ensure you abide by the advice which came to you through seasoned officers of the scheme and its collaborating agencies when you are called upon for participation in the election process in the course of your service year.
Corroborating the advise of Governor Aregbesola, the Osun NYSC Coordinator, Mr Emmanuel Attah, said, the corps members are going to play a major role in shaping the next administration of State of Osun through active participation in the electoral process.
” You are to be neutral in your work, words or action. Avoid corrupt politicians who might want to induce you. Any of who might be called to participate in the electoral process and goes against the electoral act, will face the full wrath of the law.
He stressed that, ” You must be aware that over the years, the NYSC has given great credibility to the Nigeria elections, we intend to maintain it has such. The NYSC is apolitical, we do not belong to any political party.
