The suspension of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the former Minister of Interior, by a faction of the All Progressives Congress loyal to immediate-past Osun governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola is a plus to the Omoluabi Progressives, political analysts have revealed.
It would be recalled that the Oyetola loyalists, who have had a running battle with Aregbesola, on October 29, suspended the former two-term governor of the state for alleged anti-party activities.
The suspension, political analysts argued, will further attract members of the opposition parties, especially from the APC, to Aregbesola’s political camp, Omoluabi Progressives, which was formed to reclaim the state for the progressives.
Speaking with Osun Defender, two political analysts, Funsho Daramola and Rabiu Owonikoko described Aregbesola’s suspension as a bad move by the faction loyal to Oyetola.
According to them, “The APC as a party is losing credibility due to what is happening at the federal level, and it will take a lot of work for the party to defeat the incumbent.
“The only person who can help change the fortune of APC in Osun State is former governor Rauf Aregbesola but it seems the party wants to be in the opposition for many years to come.

“Meanwhile, I see the suspension as a positive for the Omoluabi Progressives. More people will now tend towards that group. Even those loyalists of Oyetola are not loyal. They know the man is making a wrong move but they dare not say it because they are still taking peanuts from him.
“I know they will be regretting suspending Aregbesola by now and I heard Oyetola was even scolded by some politicians in Abuja for that move. The Minister is orchestrating the downfall of the APC in Osun and that may be to the advantage of the Omoluabi Progressives.”
