Asake Mourns 20-Year-Old Fan Who Died at Nairobi Concert
Afrobeats star Asake has expressed shock and sorrow over the death of 20-year-old Karen Lojore during his concert at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.
Karen reportedly died after being crushed near one of the stadium’s entry points during a brief stampede as fans tried to enter the venue.
Taking to Instagram Story, Asake described the incident as “devastating” and offered his condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones.
“I am devastated by the tragic incident that took place at the festival on Dec 20th in Nairobi,” he wrote.
“My heart goes out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Karen Lojore, and I pledge to support and do my best to understand what happened. Those responsible should be held accountable.”
The singer, known for using music to spread joy, called the tragedy “heartbreaking” and prayed for the late fan’s repose.
“Music has always been my way of sharing love and joy, and it breaks my heart that anyone had to experience such loss. My thoughts are with everyone grieving, and I pray that Karen rests in peace. God bless Kenya,” he added.
The incident has sparked outrage over poor crowd management, malfunctioning ticket systems, and narrow entry points at the stadium.
This is the second fatal crowd incident at one of Asake’s concerts.
In December 2022, a stampede at his O2 Brixton show led to the deaths of two women.
