ASP Flees As Police Arrest, Dismiss Two Inspectors For Alleged Armed Robbery

The leadership of Zone 2 police command, Onikan, Lagos State, has disclosed that the command is on the trail of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Ajayi Victor, who was allegedly involved in armed robbery, illegal duty and corruption.

The police in the zone also noted that they have arrested and dismissed two police inspectors for being part of the criminal activities.

The dismissed officers were identified as Inspector Ogunleye Stephen and Inspector Sunday Adetoye.

They were reported to have been engaging in such activities for a long time.

The ASP alongside the dismissed officers allegedly invaded the home of a man at Obada Oko area of Ogun State and carted away iPhones, Samsung smart phone, Tecno phone and two laptops.

The spokesperson for the zone, Umma Ayuba, who confirmed the dismissal of the two policemen to newsmen on Thursday in a statement she signed, said the officers were armed when they invaded their victim’s house.

Ayuba said: “The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, comprising Lagos and Ogun states, Ari Muhammed Ali, has ordered the dismissal of AP. No. 279495 Inspector Sunday Adetoye and AP. No. 223521 Inspector Ogunleye Stephen, attached to the zonal command headquarters, Onikan, Lagos for the offences of armed robbery, official corruption and illegal duty.

“The erring officers, who were at the time facing trial for a similar offence, on November 23, at about 10:00p.m, went in the company of three others; two members of a vigilante group, one Semiu, one Abidoye and one Charles (a driver), to the residence of one Taiwo Monsuru and one Akintola Sunday, at Obada-Oko in Ogun State; armed with two SMG rifles and live ammunition, conducted a search without a warrant, where they made away with five iPhones, one Samsung smart phone, one Tecno phone and two laptops.

“Police officers attached to Ifo division mounted a roadblock after other residents of the apartment informed them of the incident with the description of the vehicle, which led to the apprehension of the occupants of the vehicle without ASP Ajayi Victor, who led the illegal operation and is currently at large.”

The AIG has directed that the dismissed officers be charged to court alongside the civilians involved, while he urged all officers and men of the force to remain professional in the discharge of their duties in accordance with the law, as anyone found wanting would be accountable for his/her action or inaction.
