Assault On Officer: Osun NSCDC Boss Meets AIG, Makes Three Key Demands

The newly deployed Osun State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, CC Igbalawole Sotiyo has paid a courtesy visit to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 11, Command Headquarters, AIG Patrick Ogong Edung.

According to a statement on Friday by the Osun NSCDC PRO, ASC Kehinde Adeleke, the meeting which was held at the Zone 11 Command Headquarters on Wednesday, was arranged in response to a recent incident involving the alleged assault of an NSCDC officer by the Police.

Osun Defender had earlier reported that some police officers allegedly assault an NSCDC officer, identified simply as Owoeye, who was on guard duty in an estate in Osogbo.

According to a video sighted by Osun Defender, some residents of the estate were also allegedly assaulted by the police.

During the visit, Commandant Sotiyo expressed his deep displeasure over the reported assault, emphasizing that public servants are bound by the Public Service Rules (PSR), which do not permit physical altercations or brutality.

In light of the incident, he presented three key demands, aimed at fostering respect, collaboration, and accountability among security personnel in the state.

The Commandant expressed displeasure over the recent assault on NSCDC personnel and highlighted the need for a resolution.

He stressed that public servants should follow the Public Service Rules, which do not condone physical brutality.

He emphasized the need for senior officials to intervene when inter-agency conflict arise, promoting peaceful resolution.

In response, AIG Patrick Ogong Edung acknowledged the importance of the issues raised and appreciated the NSCDC’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration.

Edung condemned the recent altercation, describing it as “a public disgrace” and assured that a thorough, unbiased investigation into the incident would be conducted, as directed by Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The AIG highlighted that inter-service rivalry tends to occur primarily among junior personnel, whereas senior officers have generally fostered strong cooperation and synergy.

He urged all agencies to continue building on this culture of collaboration to better address the nation’s security challenges.
