The Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun (Larooye II), has appointed Hon. Abdulhakeem Olaoye Otaoroju, a prominent loyalist of former Osun state Governor and immediate past Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, as a member of the Osogbo Elders’ Council.

Osun Defender reports that Otaoroju is a former chairman of Osogbo South LCDA and a staunch member of the Omoluabi Progressives, as a member of the Osogbo Elders’ Council.

Otaoroju was officially sworn in on Tuesday, 27th February 2025, at the palace of the Ataoja, where he took the Oath of Office, pledging loyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and commitment to the peace, progress, and prosperity of Osogbo land.

In a statement signed by him on Thursday, Otaoroju expressed gratitude for the appointment, describing it as a “call to service.”

He stated, “Today marks the beginning of another service to my town Osogbo as I, Abdulhakeem Olaoye Otaoroju, was sworn in as one of the Osogbo Elders’ Council by The Ataoja of Osogbo Land, HRH Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun Larooye II. May God help me.”

The appointment further strengthens Otaoroju’s influence in Osogbo politics, given his close ties with the Omoluabi Progressives, the political movement loyal to Aregbesola.

As a respected political figure in Osogbo, Otaoroju has played a significant role in grassroots mobilisation and governance, particularly during his tenure as the chairman of Osogbo South LCDA.

His new position in the Osogbo Elders’ Council is expected to enhance his contribution to the traditional and political affairs of the ancient town.

The Osogbo Elders’ Council is a prestigious body that advises the Ataoja of Osogbo on matters relating to the town’s development, culture, and governance.

The ceremony, which took place at the Ataoja’s palace, had in attendance key traditional and political stakeholders in Osogbo.
