Atiku Condemns Kebbi School Abduction, Warns of National Security Collapse
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the abduction of students from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, where armed men also killed the Vice-Principal.
In a statement on Monday, he described the attack as a devastating blow to education in northern Nigeria.
Atiku said the incident underscores the growing vulnerability of schoolchildren and the deteriorating security situation across the country.
He also condemned the killing of APC chieftain Umar Moriki and the mass abductions in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where bandits reportedly kidnapped dozens of residents, including women and children.
“These acts of barbarity have no place in a civilised society,” Atiku said, adding that the frequency and scale of such attacks highlight the government’s inability to protect its citizens.
He noted similar outbreaks of violence in Plateau, Benue, and other states, where rural communities continue to suffer killings, displacement, and destruction.
He specifically highlighted fresh attacks in Shanono LGA, Kano State, which have forced residents to flee their homes, describing the situation as a national emergency.
Atiku urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to urgently review and strengthen Nigeria’s security framework. “Nigeria cannot continue on this path,” he said.
“The government must deploy adequate personnel to vulnerable communities and intensify intelligence-led operations. Our citizens deserve protection, dignity, and peace — nothing less.”
He concluded that the wave of killings and abductions across the country exposes the weaknesses of the current security system and called for immediate, decisive action.
