The camp of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the endorsement of All Progressives Congress flagbearer, Bola Tinubu, by leaders of Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere.
OSUN DEFENDER had on Sunday night reported that Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti and some South West leaders endorsed Tinubu’s presidential ambition.
The former Governor of Lagos State was endorsed during a meeting with Afenifere leaders at Fasoranti’s residence in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
However, the likes of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, and the Secretary-General of the group, Sola Ebiseni were absent from the meeting.
The spokesman of the Atiku/Okowa Campaign Organisation, Daniel Bwala, while reacting to the development said Tinubu’s endorsement is faulty.
According to Bwala, the absence of Adebanjo and others is an indication that the endorsement was faulty.
Bwala condemned the Afenifere leaders for inviting only Tinubu among all other presidential candidates.
He noted that they could have hosted other presidential candidates to listen to their plans ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The spokesman said, “In what seemed like the crawling of a rat at night to steal meat from the pot, Tinubu paid a strange visit to Pa Fasoranti; strange because it was not an organized setting of the usual meeting of the highly respected Afenifere; needless to say the leader of the group Pa Adebanjo and the secretary were obviously absent when he went in a Gestapo manner.
“First off, the Afenifere we know has through their leader made known their position as to who they support and it was certainly not Tinubu. Secondly, if it were a meeting seeking to know the right person to support or endorse amongst the candidates, it ought to have at least invited the leading candidates to hear their take on what plans they have for the country that caters to the interests of Afenifere.”
