“Atiku’s Coalition Is Leprous” – Presidency Says, Mocks El-Rufai, Others
The Presidency has taken a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing his recently touted political coalition as “leprous” and “dead on arrival.”
The Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, made the remarks on his official X handle (formerly Twitter), where he mocked Atiku’s alliance with former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.
“Atiku’s political future looks bleak,” Onanuga wrote. “The coalition that he, El-Rufai, Babachir, and new member Baba-Ahmed are cobbling together has disintegrated. Potential allies, including former running mate Ifeanyi Okowa and defunct CPC members, are giving his leprous group a wide berth. Atiku is a loser again.”
The comment sparked wide reactions across the political space, coming shortly after another Tinubu aide, Mr. Tunde Rahman, described the defection of former Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, and the sitting Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as a “massive blow” to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
According to Rahman, the ongoing crack within the PDP is a clear signal that the much-talked-about coalition is a stillborn idea.
He noted: “Isn’t Atiku coalition dead on arrival? As my people will say, the glimpses of a Saturday that will be good will manifest from Friday.”
