Avoid Self-Destruction, Aregbesola warns NYSC Members

OSUN State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has charged members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, posted to the state to avoid self-destructive acts such as drugs, prostitution, internet scamming and other vices during and after their stay.

Aregbesola stated this during the closing ceremony of the 2016 Batch B National Youth Service Corps. “However, use this period to lay the foundation and prepare yourself for the rest of your life after service as many outstanding citizens have carved a niche for themselves during their service year and built a capital that sustained them for life.

“Whatever you want to become, prepare for it now and do not wait till you are out and start looking for a job before preparing yourself for a direction in life. You are already entrepreneurs; if you want to continue in that line, begin to acquire the infrastructure of the mind that is necessary for launching deeper; begin to learn about financial and professional facilities and other assistance available in your field. ‘’There are many government and private sector empowerment programmes, especially in agriculture, small and medium enterprises and light manufacturing. Avail yourselves of them. Agriculture is guaranteed because there is always a market for food. As you are all aware, there are few jobs waiting anywhere.

‘‘The financial challenge faced by the nation has ruled out public sector jobs. The private sector has also been badly hit such that many of them are in the process of down-sizing and have little or no capacity to absorb more workers. But there will always be room for innovation, for those who can think, apply their intellect to, problems and challenges and provide solutions.’’ Meanwhile, the State NYSC Coordinator, Emmanuel Attah, urged urged the corps members to accept their posting in good faith and settle down immediately to work.

“The good people of the State of Osun are very friendly and hospitable. You only need to understand and respect their socio- cultural lifestyles and you will have an interesting service year. Look at the nooks and crannies of the state to unleash your skills, competencies, intellect and discipline. As you may wish to know, most of you have been posted to rural areas in the following key sectors of education, agriculture, rural health, and infrastructure. Endeavour to be good ambassadors of your families and the National Youth Service Corps. Always remember that this state and our dear country depend on you, especially in these trying times to contribute your quota to the task of national development.’’
