Babangida’s Book Launch, Library Project Attract N16bn in Donations
Former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.), on Thursday, secured over N16bn from the public presentation of his autobiography, A Journey in Service, and the launch of his presidential library at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
The event attracted Nigeria’s business elite and political figures.
Billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote led the donations with N8bn, structured as N2bn annually for four years and he also pledged to continue the contributions if the project extended beyond that period.
BUA Group founder Abdulsamad Rabiu followed with a N5bn donation, while Theophilus Danjuma, founder of the TY Danjuma Foundation, gave N3bn.
Other significant contributors included businessman Arthur Eze, who donated N500m, and Senator Sani Musa, who pledged N250m.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio contributed N50m, while Deputy Senate President and Senator Aliyu Wadada gave N20m and N10m, respectively.
Nigerian businesswoman and philanthropist Folorunsho Alakija, along with others, also made donations but did not disclose the amounts.
President Bola Tinubu led a delegation of top government officials and dignitaries, including former presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Yakubu Gowon, and Abdulsalami Abubakar.
Former vice presidents Atiku Abubakar, Namadi Sambo, and Yemi Osinbajo were also present.
Presidential candidates from the 2023 elections, including Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, attended the event.
Former Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo delivered the keynote address.
Former Sierra Leonean President Ernest Koroma was also in attendance.
The gathering was graced by governors, industrialists, technocrats, and traditional rulers.
