Bandits Kill Driver, Attack Passengers on Kaduna Road
A commercial driver was shot dead and passengers were attacked by gunmen along the Galadimawa–Tumburku Road in Giwa Local Government Area, Kaduna State, on Tuesday night, in the latest sign of rising insecurity in the state.
Security sources said the attack occurred around 8:40 pm on December 16, when the assailants blocked the road and began firing sporadically at motorists.
A Volkswagen Golf carrying four passengers was reportedly targeted.
The driver, whose identity has not been confirmed, was shot during the attack and later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
The passengers, Rabiu Lawal, 30; Binta Salisu, 40; Balkisu Yahaya, 30; and Karima Yusuf, 40 — were rescued and evacuated to safety, according to a Zagazola Makama report.
Relatives of the deceased have been notified.
In response, troops and other security agencies have intensified operations in the area to apprehend the attackers, while investigations continue.
Residents have been urged to exercise caution when travelling on the road and to report any suspicious activity.
