Bandits Kill One, Abduct Over 30 in Kogi

Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State was thrown into panic in the early hours of Monday, June 1, 2026, after bandits attacked the area, killing one person and abducting more than 30 others.

The incident reportedly occurred around 2:25 a.m., when the armed attackers stormed the community.

One person was killed during the attack, while another sustained injuries.

Sources in the community said two residents of Ayegunle Bunu, a man and a woman, were among those abducted.

The remaining victims were said to be passengers travelling in a commercial bus that was intercepted by the attackers while passing through the area.

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, confirmed the incident while addressing journalists on the sidelines of the Passing-Out Parade of 565 newly trained police constables at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja.

CP Kankarofi said investigations into the abduction were ongoing, adding that security operatives had already launched efforts to rescue the victims and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
