Bangladesh Students Repaint Walls, Control Traffic Ahead Of Interim Govt (Video)

Ahead of Nobel laureate, Muhammad Yunus’s swearing in as head of the Bangladesh interim government, students on Wednesday took over the street to repaints and control traffic.

Bangladesh’s military chief had announced that Yunus is scheduled to be sworn in on Thursday night upon his return from Paris.

Yunus’ appointment by General Waker-Uz-Zaman follows the unrest that led to the resignation and departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

In a video shared online, some of the students were seen painting walls while some were controlling traffic in the city.

The students have called for a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Muhammad Yunus, to head of an interim government.

Osun Defender reports that the Military took over Bangladesh on Monday after a protest that left more than 90 people dead on Sunday.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resigned and fled the palace after 15-year rule.

The uprising which started in July and led by students and people, has taken place to repair the state and to abolish the fascist system and not to satisfy the power aspirations of any particular party or group, said the Anti-discriminatory Student Movement.

In a press release, signed by Asif Mahmud, a key coordinator of the student’s movement, it said the responsibility of the interim government will be to implement the hopes and aspirations of the students and general people.

Until the establishment of the interim government proposed by the students and people and the state is repaired as per the demand, the students and people are alert and will remain vigilant, it reads.

The statement said the movement is working with the people to prevent any communal provocations, damage to public properties and chaos.

“We waged war to establish peace, and now we are healing the damage of that war by taking responsibility. I salute the students and people who have taken charge of the country through voluntary activities,” said Asif Mahmud in the statement.
