A caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, the Omoluabi Progressives, has stated that the former governor of the state, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, is surrounded by ‘reckless’ writers and talkers.
According to the caucus, the members of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy’s kitchen cabinet, including Adebayo Adeleke, known as Banik, a former Commissioner for Local Government under Oyetola, are the architects of the political misfortune of the Osun APC.
The Organising and Publicity Secretary of the Omoluabi Progressives, Abosede Oluwaseun, while reacting to a statement credited to Adeleke, that the immediate-past Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, is no longer a member of the APC on Friday, described the lackey of the former governor as too low in politics and accomplishment to even pass comment on the political status of the two-term governor of Osun.
THE FULL STATEMENT
There is a certain Adeleke Adebayo known as BANIK who enjoys throwing tantrums to sweet his political master, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola. BANIK is known for his reckless talks, and he enjoys doing so to the extent of buying air time on available radio stations to make a mountain out of a molehill.
On Wednesday, BANIK reportedly made a statement at a purported Osun Central Senatorial Meeting of the All Progressives Congress, where he passed judgment on the Leader of Progressive Politics in Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the immediate past minister of Interior and the only standing two-term governor of Osun State. BANIK had declared that Aregbesola is no longer a member of the APC.

BANIK’S outburst is another testimony of the position of Aregbesola’s followers that Oyetola is the architect of APC’s woes and electoral misfortune in Osun. If a character like BANIK, who came from the PDP to serve as a Commissioner for Local Government under a progressive government, was and is still the advisor of Oyetola, simply is a pointer to the self-destruction which happened to them in 2022 and the 2023 general elections. A simple analysis of Oyetola’s team shows that he parades reckless writers and talkers who have been taking advantage of his weakness, fear and ambition to misguide him, and by extension, misdirect the party’s affairs.
BANIK is too low, in politics and accomplishment, to declare Aregbesola as a non-member of the APC. It shows the erosion of progressive values and standards. It also means that progressive politics have suffered in the hands of political jobbers, flotsam and jetsam. It is clearly unreasonable for anyone to make such an absurd and unguided statement.
Besides, we know of a fact that each time there is information about possible reconciliation, Oyetola’s bootlickers begin to cry wolf where there is none, in their bid to frustrate any reconciliatory move. Their fear is that they will not have a seat when quality and purposeful leadership returns to Osun APC.
It is only in a political space where intellectualism, progressive ideas and ideology; truth, honesty, conscience, courtesy and good character are lacking that we will hear the voice of the likes of BANIK.
The Omoluabi Progressives Caucus is not unaware of the character of the political scoundrels who are still nursing the pains of the self-inflicted electoral misfortune they suffered by annihilating Aregbesola’s structure in the last political contest. BANIK and his ilk had declared Aregbesola as inconsequential, but they later turned around to accuse him of being behind their political misfortune.
We know the Oyetola camp are bewitched; if not, they would not continue to discuss a man you had claimed is no longer relevant. Whoever wants to be in the news among the Oyetola’s bootlickers will have to mention AREGBESOLA’s name. it is their meal ticket.
It will do the Osun progressive family much good if it retraces its steps and embrace a man who left all political offices intact before exiting government in 2018. Ogbeni handed over power to Oyetola, and left behind two APC senators, six Federal House of Representatives members, 23 House of Assembly members, all the 69 Local Government, LCDA & Area offices Chairmen.
No one should expect any good from Oyetola’s Nazareth when the kinds of BANIK are the measures.
