Barcelona football club played a match yesterday and made an iconic breakthrough yesterday in a match played with PSG, where history was made. An incredible game saw Sergi Roberto pop up in stoppage time to secure a 6-1 win against Paris Saint-Germain and take them through to the quarter-finals 6-5 on aggregate.
Luis Enrique’s side were full of belief of a comeback and flew out the blocks, with Luis Suarez scoring inside the first three minutes.
An own goal from Layvin Kurzawa and a Lionel Messi penalty either side of half time made it 3-0 and had Camp Nou rocking, dreaming of the comeback which had been bigged up in the Catalan capital all week.
Edinson Cavani’s strike, though, looked to have ended those dreams. It provided PSG with a precious away goal and left Barca needing to score three more.
That looked unlikely in the 80th minute. And in the 85th. And even in the 88th when a stunning Neymar free-kick made it 4-1 on the night.
There was a glimmer of hope, though, when Neymar scored from the penalty spot and five minutes of added time were held up.
In the final minute of that added time, Neymar sent in a deep cross and Sergi Roberto stuck out a leg, poking the ball past Kevin Trapp and sending Camp Nou wild.
A miracle. No team had come from four goals down before. Now Barca have. And how.
They take their place in the last eight for the 10th consecutive season, while PSG are left to ponder what happened. How could they throw it away from the position they had?
