The Bauchi State Government has directed the immediate closure of all schools in the state amid escalating security threats.

The order, announced on Sunday, affects primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, including both federal and privately operated schools.

Information and Public Relations Officer of the state Ministry of Education, Jalaludeen Usman, said the decision followed extensive consultations and was prompted by “overwhelming security concerns affecting the safety of students, teachers and school communities across the state.”

Usman explained, “This decision, though difficult, was taken after thorough consultations and in response to significant security threats. The government is aware of the inconvenience this may cause, but the safety of our children is our highest moral responsibility. Every student in Bauchi State deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, stable, and free of fear.

“We call on all concerned not to panic but to remain cooperative. The government is working closely with security agencies to resolve the situation and ensure normal academic activities resume as soon as it is safe,” Usman said.

Residents were also urged to assist security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities.

“If you see something, say something. Timely information from the public is crucial in safeguarding our communities,” he added.

The closure follows recent abductions of pupils and students in Kebbi and Niger states, which have raised concerns across northern Nigeria.
