- Your Position On Adeleke’s Administration Mere Crocodile Tears From A Sore Loser – PDP Replies Basiru
The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ajibola Basiru, has again knocked the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke that it is fond of attacking those who offer useful advice.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that Basiru and Adeleke have been at loggerheads over some comments made by the former during an interview on TVC’s Breakfast Programme on Saturday.
Basirue, a gubernatorial aspirant under the APC in Osun State, had, during the interview, said Governor Adeleke has not done well in governance, describing his administration as a failure.
Basirue said Adeleke sacked teachers and health workers employed by former governor Gboyega Oyetola without replacing them.
But the spokesperson to Governor Adeleke, Olawale Rasheed while reacting to the interview, described the APC National Secretary as an abandoned politician seeking relevance.
Rasheed said Basiru has already been ditched by members of his party and is suffering from ‘Adelekephobia syndrome’, a political disease he claimed is now afflicting many within the rank and file of the opposition party in Osun State.
He noted that Basiru, like other opposition members, is blinded to the good work of Governor Adeleke, adding that the state will continue to thrive with the PDP at the helm of affairs.
He said, “Osun was recently ranked 7th out of 36 states in the national examination ranking. Under Mr Bashiru’s government between 2018 to 2022, Osun was placed 33rd. Because of Adelekephobia, Mr Bashiru must still condemn Governor Adeleke’s records on education.
“Some few months back, Osun came first on primary health access in the South West with a prize of $500,000. But the opposition secretary cannot see it because, under a government where he served, Osun was ranked 28th in primary health care access.”
Reacting to the spokesperson’s reaction, Basiru, in a statement on Sunday morning, said he would not stop at anything to give useful advice to Adeleke as anything that happens to Osun will affect him and others.
The APC National Secretary said he was not surprised at the present administration’s reaction to his interview, noting, from day one, it likes to be praised, even for the littlest of things.
He said, “The reaction is yet another sad example of the administration’s inability to engage in constructive discourse. Instead of addressing clear failures, the government continues its descent into baseless abuse, theatrical name-calling, and hollow propaganda.
“It is important to remind the Adeleke administration that governance is not about trading insults but about responding to accountability with facts. A government that has failed across critical sectors cannot hide behind slogans and solar lights that barely last a week.
“While the administration boasts of a 40 percent debt reduction, it conveniently hides the fact that Osun’s federal allocation has increased by over 300 percent. What the Adeleke government claims as a financial discipline is simply the benefit of increased federal oil receipts, not strategic fiscal management and discipline.
“Governor Adeleke has denied the widespread reports of teachers disengagement since assuming office. Why did Adeleke sack about 5000 teachers employed by his predecessor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola? Two and a half years later, why has he not engaged them again?
“In a shocking display of poor planning, the government had to start digging under the Oke Fia flyover, because trucks could not pass under. Is this the infrastructural revolution they boast about?
“Osun people have yet to see any clear agenda for agriculture, water and sanitation, or market expansion. These are critical to livelihood. Yet Adeleke’s government has ignored them while focusing on showmanship and media stunts.”
Meanwhile, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has once again refuted claim that Governor Adeleke sacked teachers and health workers employed by his predecessor.
The party, in a statement by its chairman, Sunday Bisi, said Basiru’s position regarding the status of certain individuals allegedly employed into the civil service at the tail end of the immediate past administration was a mere crocodile tear from a sore loser.
The party noted that ‘APC loyalists’ were hastily and unlawfully absorbed into the civil service in the twilight of Oyetola’s administration without going through due process.
Bisi condemned the desperate attempt by the embattled APC governorship aspirant to label the last-minute and irregular exercise as genuine employment.
According to Bisi, “Senator Basiru’s attempt to castigate Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration is futile. The good people of Osun, who voted out the APC, are fully aware of the deceit hidden in that last-minute employment charade.
“It is indeed laughable that an APC government which neglected workers’ welfare for years, failing to employ or conduct any statutory promotion for the existing workforce, suddenly began distributing civil service slots after losing the 2022 election. Clearly, this was not governance but an act of clear desperation.”
