Biola Adams-Odutayo’s Lawyers Condemn ‘False Narratives’, Urge Due Process In Opayele’s Death Case

Legal representatives of Biola Adams-Odutayo, the woman accused of reckless driving leading to the death of Osun-born tech entrepreneur, Adetunji Opayele, have condemned what they described as a ‘campaign of calumny’ against their client.

They urged the public to refrain from spreading narratives that could prejudice the case, which is now before a competent court of law.

In a statement sent to OSUN DEFENDER, Olukayode Enitan, SAN, representing Adams-Odutayo, expressed concerns over the ‘false narratives’ being circulated on social media, alleging that they were aimed at garnering sympathy and vilifying his client.

The lawyer maintained that while the incident was tragic, the ongoing cyberbullying and harassment against Adams-Odutayo were not in the interest of justice.

“It is regrettable that one of the victims of the accident died, but it is cruel to believe that attacking the surviving victim will bring justice to the deceased,” the statement read.

The legal team further appealed for restraint, stressing that only the courts should determine the outcome based on evidence presented before them.

The statement from Adams-Odutayo’s legal team follows widespread public outrage after the tragic incident on March 4, 2025, when Opayele, a 32-year-old software engineer and co-founder of Bumpa, was killed in a road accident along Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island, Lagos.

As earlier reported by OSUN DEFENDER, Opayele was riding his power bike when he collided with Adams-Odutayo’s vehicle.

An online petition, launched on Change.org, had alleged that Adams-Odutayo acted negligently, refused to assist the injured Opayele, and sought to evade responsibility.

However, her legal representatives have strongly refuted these claims, stating that her version of events has been misrepresented by individuals who were not present at the scene.

A separate statement sent by her lawyers, attributed to ‘Friends of Biola Adams-Odutayo’, insisted that she was deeply traumatised and did everything possible to save Opayele’s life.

The statement claimed that Adams-Odutayo was in shock after the accident but still tried to ensure the victim received medical attention.

It also alleged that street urchins at the scene harassed her, preventing her from accompanying Opayele to the hospital immediately.

The account further stated that Adams-Odutayo’s driver voluntarily reported the incident to the police, countering allegations that she attempted to flee.

Her legal team also dismissed claims that she refused to transport Opayele in her car due to concerns about bloodstains, arguing that her vehicle was extensively damaged in the collision.

According to the statement, Adams-Odutayo has since faced cyberbullying and threats to her safety, with many individuals portraying her as a villain without considering the full facts of the case.

The statement reiterated that Adams-Odutayo has been charged with manslaughter and reckless driving, and that she remains in Nigeria, complying with legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Magistrate Court 1, has adjourned the case till April 16, 2025, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
