Court Remands 12-Year-Old Boy For Stabbing Siblings In Ekiti

A 12-year-old boy has been remanded by an Ekiti State Magistrate Court for allegedly stabbing two brothers.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, on Wednesday, ruled that “the defendant is a juvenile and shall be tried at Juvenile court.

He thereby ordered the boy to be remanded at the Juvenile home” as he adjourned the case till August 16 for mention.”

The police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, had told the court that the defendant (minor) committed the offence on August 10 at about 8 a.m. in the Omi Olori area in Ado Ekiti.

He said, “The defendant assaulted two siblings – Toheeb Adeitan and Tajudeen Adeitan, by beating them and stabbing them on the hand and shoulder.”

The prosecutor added, “The defendant wilfully and maliciously damaged the Vivo handset valued at N19,000 belonging to one Basiri Adeitan. The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace.

“The offences committed contravene Sections 186, 421 and 181(d) Laws of Ekiti State, 2021,” Oriyomi stated as he prayed the court for a short adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.

When the count charges were read to the defendant, he, however, pleaded not guilty.

His counsel, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
