The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has declared Saturday’s Osun governorship election inconclusive.
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof Adeola Fuwape stated this on Sunday after declaring the results of the election.
Declaring the results, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke led with 254, 678 total number of votes while the candidate of the APC, Gboyega Oyetola came second with 254, 345 and the SDP candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore coming third with 111, 933 votes.
Fuwape however said the reason for the election being declared inconclusive was because of the incidents that marred the peaceful conduct of the election in some polling units in Osogbo, Orolu and Ife-South Local Government Areas of the state of Osun.
He also attributed the inconclusiveness of the election to the void votes/cancellation of voting must never exceed winning margin between the two leading parties which is 353 and the cancelled votes put at 3, 498 in the said units as contained in the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Based on this, the returning officer declared the election has inconclusive noting that a date would be announced later for a Re-Run in the affected areas.
