Supporters of former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, have joined forces with the faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by Governor Dapo Abiodun in the state. This move comes after a prolonged political battle between Abiodun and his predecessor.

Osun Defender recall that in 2019, while Amosun was the incumbent APC governor of Ogun State, he opposed the candidacy of Abiodun as the party’s flagbearer, opting instead to endorse Hon. Adekunle Akinlade. This internal conflict ultimately led to Akinlade’s departure from the party, where he subsequently contested under the banner of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), a party purportedly supported by Amosun.

Furthermore, during the 2023 general elections, when Governor Abiodun sought re-election for a second term in office, Senator Amosun, who remained affiliated with the APC, supported Tunji Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADP).

Osun Defender gathered that the politicians returning to the APC have the nod of Amosun to form an alliance with Abiodun, having left the party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during the 2023 governorship election.

The return of Amosun’s loyalists to the APC fold was led by former Ogun State party chairman Chief Derin Adebiyi during a meeting at the Presidential Lodge in Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta. They were officially received into the APC by Governor Abiodun during a ceremony held on Friday.

This development is set to reshape the political landscape in Ogun State and may hold implications for the upcoming political dynamics in the region.
