Bricklayers Defeat Carpenters As Alayemore Coronation Artisans Football Tournament Kicks Off In Grand Style
The much-anticipated Alayemore Coronation Artisans Football Tournament commenced on Saturday with a colourful opening ceremony that drew the presence of esteemed traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents of Ido-Osun.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that the event, which took place at Ido-Osun High School field, officially began at exactly 4:30pm and was declared open by High Chief Basiru Oyewale, the Eesa of Ido-Osun Kingdom, who stood in for His Royal Majesty, Oba Olayinka Oyetunde Ishola Jokotola, Alayemore of Ido-Osun.
Also present at the opening were notable royal fathers including Oba Olagoke Jimoh Ajao (Olu of Oke Ibukun), Oba Afolabi Adetunji Rasheed (Olu of Gbotaru), Oba Alimi Muritala Adekunle (Olu of Enukoko), and Oba Olusegun Aderibigbe (Olu of Akangbe Alayemore, Ido-Osun).
The community was further represented by prominent chiefs such as Chief Rasheed Aderogba (Balogun of Ido-Osun), Chief Rasheed Odeyemi (Otun Balogun), Chief Asimiyu Adeleke (Otun Jagun), and Mr Odeyemi Muhydeen, Chairman of the Tournament Organising Committee.
Members of the Ido-Osun Youth Forum (IYF) were also on ground, including Mr Yakub Yusuff, the forum’s Treasurer. Hon Olusanjo Fajobi, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee, and Engr Lasisi Muniru, a member of the Coronation Central Planning Committee, were likewise in attendance.
The opening match featured the Bricklayers Association and the Carpenters Association in what turned out to be a thrilling encounter.
Kabiru Afroo drew first blood for the Bricklayers in the first half, putting them ahead. The advantage was doubled in the second half when Ogbubia Titus found the back of the net, sealing a 2–0 victory.
The final whistle was blown at 6:04pm to signal the end of the match, to loud cheers from supporters and spectators who turned out in their numbers.
The Alayemore Artisans Football Tournament is part of activities lined up to celebrate the coronation of Oba Jokotola, and aims to foster unity and showcase talent among the various artisan groups in Ido-Osun.
