Buhari Orders Ministers With Political Aspiration To Resign

Ahead of the 2023 general election, all those with political aspiration in the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari have been ordered to resign on or before Monday 16th May 2022.

The President gave the order during the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) he presided over at the Presidential Villa Abuja, on Wednesday.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, confirmed it to correspondents at the end of the FEC meeting.

When asked if the directive affects the Central Bank Governor who is also interested in contesting the 2023 presidential election, Mohammed said he did not have the mandate to talk on the fate of other political appointees who are also vying for elective positions but are not members of the cabinet.

Only the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who he affirmed was an elected official is exampted from the directive.

Those affected include: Rotimi Amaechi, Ogbonnaya Onu, Emeka Nwajiuba, Chris Ngige and Timipre Sylva who are all aspiring for the presidency.

Others are Abubakar Malami aspiring to become Govenror of Kebbi State and Pauline Tallen, who is running for Senate.

They are by this directive expected to resign their ministerial positions since they have already picked up their expression of interest and nomination forms for the various tickets of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
