An unidentified commercial driver commonly called ‘tuke-tuke’, allegedly set a personnel of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA), who was directed to take him and his vehicle to the EDSTMA office for committing a traffic offence on fire to protest his arrest on Friday.
The driver of the bus marked Osun FFE145XA was said to have violated the traffic light at Adesuwa Junction along Sapele Road and when he was stopped by a traffic personnel, he resisted arrest.
Another personnel was, thereafter, directed to drive the vehicle to the office of EDTSMA, and in the process, the driver stripped himself naked, took a keg of petrol from his vehicle, poured it on the EDTSMA official, and set him ablaze.
According to a statement posted by Facebook user Osaze Edigin: “The Management of Edo State Traffic Control and Management Agency (EDSTMA) hereby announces to the general public that a motorist driving a commercial bus with the registration number FFE145XA committed a traffic offence at Adesuwa Junction, Sapele Road, Benin City on Friday, 9th February 2023.
“On apprehension, the bus driver angrily brought out fuel and set one of the officers ablaze.
Currently, the officer is in an undisclosed hospital receiving treatment.”
